Pekiti Tirsia Kali System
Officially founded in 1897 as a family system by Grand Master Conrado Tortal, Pekiti Tirsia Kali is an indigenous, highly effective, close quarters, in-fighting system of combat from Negros Occidental in the Philippines. It was brought to the U.S. in 1972 by Grand Master Leo Tortal Gaje Jr., the grandson of Conrado Tortal and heir to the Pekiti Tirsia System. Since then, Pekiti Tirsia Kali has expanded worldwide to exclusive groups under the Pekiti Tirsia Global Organization.
In the Ilongo dialect of Negros Occidental, Pekiti means “to get in close". Tirsia, derived from Latin tersiarius, means "to quarter". The Pekiti Tirsia Kali system provides the tools needed to move in so close and quarter the opponent using multiple combinations of offensive and/or counter-offensive attacks, leaving no space for escape. Based on tactics and strategies derived from edged weapons, Pekiti Tirsia is a complete system that incorporates both weapons and empty hands methods designed for both single and multiple attackers
